Curlymatt's Farm

I'm still in year two but here is the farm. I've spent a lot of time trying to make enough money to expand the farm and need to focus more for awhile on getting the fame necessary to get to experienced and expand my house (ergo have more labor available) but missions are hard to accomplish in the winter and fall. I made the mistake of not signing up for any missions lately as I am in Mexico for a couple of months on vacation and wasn't sure if I'd have to hibernate or not.

I haven't decided what I'm going to focus on yet since the farm is so new. I might try wine or dairy, but am pretty open to either option. I think one goal I have this spring and summer is to try to get a double harvest on my cereals and to save enough to be able to supply my own wheat flour for when the flour runs out in the market.

I'm open to feedback, especially as many of you have so much more experience in the game. Thanks to Perk (I think) for the livestock tip as I bulldozed my pen to make room for cereal planting this spring.

  1. I don't think a dairy is really profitable unless you raise your own cows and they'd have to be at least 4* to be worth spending the endurance to make dairy products. You won't be able to find high quality fresh meat or milk on the market either.

I think you should go for a winery. Plant a couple multi-yield crops now while saving up for the workshop cost. The winery is profitable but sometimes it's hard to find 7* fruit on the market and you'll make more profit if you grow the fruits yourself. You'll also get pomace from making wine which you can use to make fertiliser plus in your organic workshop.

For double cropping, it's best to plant the cool cereals (wheat, alfalfa, oat, soybean, barley) in spring and the hot cereals (corn, rice, rye, sunflower) in summer. This year I took a chance and planted soybean in summer... I still haven't managed to harvest it and I'm not quite sure if I'll get to do so before the first frost.

  2. Fruit trees produce 150 or 100 fruits per harvest. For me, it's easier to buy 7* fruits from market instead of waiting the trees to grow. I don't think you can use the winery every turn like the bakery.

There are a lot of 3* milk on the market every turn, but no any 3* butter. In a challenges, making 3* bun/gougeres can earn more points compare to making 7* sourdough bread. Don't sell the diary products to the market, but try to use in your bakery to increase their value.

  3. I was browsing some of the winery recipes and they don't seem to take forever. And it will take some time for me to establish the crops needed to produce my own pesticides and fungicides. It is also nice to have a source for Pomace as I am not sure how reliable the market is as a source. So much to grow...so little funds and space!
