The deluge of rain on the Asia server has got me down so I thought I'd put a couple questions out there to be answered by y'all. Maybe you're like me and it's all you can do to stave off boredom. If that's the case what are you doing to keep busy in the rain? Maybe you were really prepared and have so much to do that you're thankful for the rain. If that's the case how do you think you got there?
As I said I'm staving off boredom with all this rain, trying to will my cereals to grow faster. I don't think I'll be able to try triple cropping and will be satisfied if I can double crop. The turns go quickly these days as I'm doing my part to supply the world with corn tortillas. When I'm not doing that I troll the forums for something interesting to read. This is compounded as it's the rainy season here in Mexico so I have more free time at home but alas the rain follows me even to FFG.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's possible to do triple cropping year after year unless we can make really good fertiliser. We still haven't gotten recipes for fertiliser extra or advanced fertiliser but I think even 7* fertiliser plus would give us a chance.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I'm really focused on my chickens. They're on advanced feed now and I plan to switch them to optimum organic this autumn when they reach 84 quality. According to my data, they should reach 7* by the end of the year and I'll able to collect some 7* manure before next spring so hopefully we can start triple cropping.
I actually seeded my cereals in February this year since the winter was so mild. I already had 14% growth by the time spring started which has made up for the slow growth on rainy days.
Do you have enough cereal for feed? I was really worried I wouldn't have enough corn to last until autumn so I've been checking the market several times a day. Today someone just sold a bunch of freshly harvested 7* corn and I bought 200 units of it. I don't care if there's a price bonus. The eggs alone make enough money to cover the cost of the feed, my bills, and even both of my employees' salaries.
I've enough cereals to keep my few chickens improving. They are still 1* so it's a piece of cake. I'm really only keeping as many as I have for the accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteOn a happy note I'm winning the bloom festival for amatuer (and the tilling and seeding but those have a ways yet) and there are only 3 turns left. I know its expensive but I'm dedicating my employee to tilling, planting and bulldozing one field. It's given me a 200 point lead and I hope I can hold on till the end.
Matt, your strategy for bloom festival/ tilling/ sowing challenges is really smart. How many score given for tilling/sowing one field?
ReplyDeleteBeginning from my first year at FFG, I grow 3 cereal crops a year at my Test and US Farm by using 5* to 7* organic fertilizer plus. I think the weather there are much better than Asia. Nevertheless, I would like to share my experience with your guys.
If the temperature is not below 0 Celsius Degree, I plant warm cereal on 2nd week of February; fertilize them with 5* OFP by end of winter and mid of spring. First crop will be done by end of May/early of June. Then, second crops (hot cereal) will be ready by early/mid of August with 6* OFP applied by early of summer. Lastly, third crops (warm cereals/ garlic) will be harvest by end of January, fertilize them with 7* OFP by 4th week of November and the day before freeze (if any) to protect the crop from cold damage.
@curlymatt: if your chickens are only 1* you don't have to spend cereals making feed for them. Just move them outside and they will increase quality on their own and save you some endurance.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing ajoo. My cereals will be harvested the 2nd week of June and if I'm able to harvest my hot cereals by mid August I will try to grow garlic and fava bean. I just wish fava was 1-20C like garlic...
Ajoo...I gain about 300 points a day for just turning over one field in the bloom festival. That and I'm also enrolled in the tilling and planting festival so the points are worth 2X as much because they count for the other festivals too.
ReplyDeleteTami...If I move the chickens outside do I lose the productivity bonus? Also I'm trying to get the beginner manure accomplishment. Is it easier to raise their quality and then move them inside to make more manure or is what I'm doing currently a quicker strategy?
I didn't realise you have an upgrade. What level of heating do you have?
ReplyDeleteYes, you do lose all the upgrade bonuses (fertility, growth, and productivity) when you move your chickens outside so if you're really set on getting more manure faster then you can keep them inside.
What you're doing is quicker but costlier in both money and endurance which is why newbies are normally recommended to not buy any chicken coop upgrades and just move their chickens outside. Since you're no longer a newbie and already have an upgrade it's fine.
I have just the first level of heating. I think I may have spent a bit too much at first but I got excited thinking I could get the Amateur accomplishments done faster. I realize now that its a bit too expensive, but I'm impatient...which is sometimes a bummer with this game. Anyhow I'll keep feeding the chickens and watch them slowly grow. I don't mind it much. Gives me something to do while I wait for the money in my acct to grow enough so I can hire another employee.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side I did end up winning the bloom challenge...and if I'm lucky I'll pull off those other two as well.
On my opinion, the faster way to complete the manure accomplishment is raising pig. One pig produce 10 dirtiness per turn. If you have 3 pigs, you have chance to collect 9 manures (3 per head, without heat upgrade) every 2 turns. Somemore, it's good if somebody in our coop raising pig. Pig also very useful if you plan to join the culling challenges.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with pigs is that they don't have any daily produce and they eat more than chickens so they're not very profitable.
ReplyDeleteBut you can also get a lot of manure from chickens with max heating and good feed. At 100 dirtiness I get 165 manure using advanced feed with 15 chickens.
If you really need the accomplishments to level up then I suggest you go for the workshop ones since you won't have to wait for those.
The daily products from pig are manure. If you have a max size (7) and heat upgrade (+100%), feeding with 7* advanced feed (+63%), your 7 pigs (includes baby pigs) will give you 56 manure EVERY turn at 70 dirtiness. But, with 15 chickens in a coop, you have to wait for 5 turns to collect 120 manures at 75 dirtiness. Moreover, feeding 15 chickens cost you 15 feed, same with feeding 7 pigs which cost you only 14 feed (x2 for pig, if I remember well).
ReplyDeletePlease keep in mind that, meat is 2.5 time more expensive than egg, and pig can produce meat 3.5 time more than the chicken. Actually, raising pigs in your farm is very profitable.
** manure calculation (based on my experience):
If the 65<dirtiness<100,
Manure collected=3 x productivity bonus x head
If the dirtiness=100,
Manure collected=4 x productivity bonus x head
